Microsoft licenses Inflection AI technology and hires founding team (Mustafa Suleyman, Karen Simonyan)
Microsoft paid roughly $650M for a non-exclusive license to Inflection AI's models and hired co-founder Mustafa Suleyman (who became CEO of Microsoft AI) along with most of the technical team. Inflection AI continued as a corporate-AI studio while Microsoft absorbed its consumer product roadmap. The deal is widely read as a regulator-friendly "acqui-hire structured as a license" template that avoided the deal-clearance review a direct acquisition would have triggered.
