Reddit licenses content to Google for AI training (~$60M per year)
Reddit signed a multi-year content licensing agreement with Google that authorizes Google to use Reddit's public content for AI model training and other product surfaces, in exchange for approximately $60 million per year. Reddit disclosed the deal in its S-1 ahead of the March 2024 IPO. The arrangement became the template for content-licensing as a counterweight to scraped-data lawsuits, and is the first publicly priced AI-training-data deal at this scale.
