Microsoft multi-year compute capacity reservation with CoreWeave (reported ~$10B+)
Microsoft committed to a multi-billion-dollar multi-year reservation of CoreWeave GPU capacity beginning mid-2023, with subsequent expansions reported into 2024-2025. CoreWeave disclosed in IPO filings that Microsoft is its largest customer by a wide margin, and that the loss of the Microsoft contract would be a material risk to the business. This is the canonical example of the capacity-reserve-agreement pattern: a hyperscaler forward-purchases GPU inventory from a neocloud rather than building or buying the silicon directly.
