Meta releases Llama 2 with Microsoft as preferred cloud partner; Llama 2 launches on Azure
Meta released Llama 2 as a commercially permissive open-weights model and named Microsoft Azure its preferred partner for cloud deployment and the AI Studio surface. Llama 2 was simultaneously distributed through Hugging Face, AWS Bedrock, and other model hubs. The arrangement set the template for multi-distribution open-weights launches paired with a hyperscaler anchor, and is the foundation for the later Meta-Microsoft Llama 3 (2024) and Llama 4 (2025) cycles.
